The first project engaged small-scale coffee farmers located in Pitalito and surrounding municipalities. These pioneers have taken the first step to engage in Biochar Carbon Removal solutions. In Pitalito and surrounding municipalities, around 18,000 families rely on coffee production, establishing the region as Colombia’s new coffee hub. This area, privileged by its rich water resources and biodiversity, is located in the Colombian Massif, granting it access to vital water sources for both its ecosystem and agriculture. Additionally, it has protected natural reserves that ensure the conservation of habitats for endangered species, highlighting the importance of integrating environmental protection with regenerative agricultural practices.
We have set an initial expansion plan until 2030 in which we have estimated the development of 456 clusters and the removal of 619,000 tCO2eq with 25,000 coffee producing families in the main coffee producing departments in Colombia: Huila, Antioquia, Tolima, Santander and the Coffee Triangle (Caldas, Quindio and Risaralda).
